Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has blasted forwards Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial for their poor performances in their recent 1-0 loss to Newcastle.

Speaking at a press conference following the disheartening defeat, the Special One said, “We could be here for  ten hours  and we wouldn’t score a goal  – that’s the feeling. When you see the amount of chances we lost, starting in the first half when Anthony was facing the keeper.”

The tactician continued, “In the second half, we had Alexis with an open goal and then we had an accumulation of situations where it’s incredible that we didn’t score.”

Poor defending

Mourinho also pointed out a lack of effort on the defensive end as the other reason for his sides woes by adding, “The free-kick was not even from a dangerous position. It was really far from the goal.”

The Portuguese further lamented, “The players know the positions they need to be in but we missed the challenge in the air.”

This loss is undoubtedly costly for United as it continues to jeopardize their chances of catching up to league leaders City, since the English giants have allowed the champions-elect to create a 16-point gap between them with only 11 matches left this season.
