Umuahia – The newly-elected officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Uche Secondus have been charged to do everything within their powers to ensure victory for the party at all levels in the 2019 general election.

Senator Theodore Orji representing Abia Central, who gave the charge, insisted that with the new officers’ experience and personality, the party was not expecting anything less than total victory in the elections.

He also advised those that lost out to eschew rancour and acrimony and key into the position of the generality of the party membership, saying that having just emerged from a major crisis, the party took pains to organise a popular and transparent election through which leaders emerged.

For the former governor, those that were not successful in the poll should key into the vision of the party or approach the committee established to look into grievances in order to satisfy themselves.

“What the PDP has done is to set the template for elections in Nigeria. We have always set the pace for other parties to follow and we have done same again in a most transparent and orderly manner. We now expect others to follow suit. You know, some of the parties are yet to take any bold step because of fear. We have overcome our fears and done the needful.

“We are aware of where we are coming from and were determined more than ever to confine the past into the dustbin (of history). Today, we have shown that we mean all that we have said, and that is that our eyes are fixed on emerging victorious in all the elections and reclaiming our position. We are not shy and we are not looking back.

“I expect those of them that were not successful to join the elected officers to move the party forward and some of them are already doing that. We have talked to them and those who still nurse any feeling should make use of all the avenues provided by the party to channel their grievances.”

Orji, who is the Senate Committee Vice Chairman on Agriculture, insisted that events of the past had thought the party a great lesson and that this informed the reason for the transparent election.

He added that this same transparent process would be used in the emergence of candidates to fly the party’s flag in all the elections.
